The gold is not decorative. It is the only part of the painting that changes during the day — colder at noon, warmer at five. Everything else in the composition is steady. The gold is the time.
Cream and charcoal pulled across the linen in two slow passes, then opened with a knife along a single horizontal seam where unburnished gold leaf catches the light at a low angle. The gold reads only at certain hours; in flat light, the painting is monochrome.
Built over four weeks across nine palette-knife sessions. The gold leaf is laid into wet oil and intentionally left raw — it will continue to deepen for the first year, then settle.
Made for a wide horizontal wall — above a long console, a low sideboard, or as a single piece in a corridor that needs a horizon to walk towards.
